TECHNOLOGY

The Technology Project involved John Gallagher and Eamon Griffin from Abbey, Fred Gallagher from Arranmore, Michael Ward from Glenties and Noel Ward from Carrick. There are various Technology subjects taught in Irish schools including Metalwork (Senior and Junior level), Woodwork (Junior level), Construction studies and Technical Drawing (Senior and Junior level). The teachers used this site to publish information about sites which are useful for Technology subjects like the ones above, and also to provide some news and resources about projects our students are doing.

Here you'll see how Fred Gallagher's students used the internet when preparing the design for their woodwork task.

Here you'll find project ideas for students who were doing the Junior Certificate New Technology in 2003.

Here you'll find out what students doing the Leaving Certificate Engineering had to design during 2003.

Here you'll find some ideas for the design of a Pressure Gauge for Leaving Cert Engineering Project 2003.

Here are photos of what some of the students from each school made in the academic year 2001/2002.

For example, students doing the Junior Certificate examination (age 15/16) in materials technology wood (MTW) had to design and make a project as part of this exam. Noel Ward gave the following choices to his students in 2001/2002.Take a look at what Noel Ward`s students made.

Another example is the brief of a fifth year Engineering Project from Michael Wards class in 2002. As birds can be a nuisance in the garden Michael Ward's students were asked to design a Wind powered mechanism which will act as a deterrent. The mechanism should include : (a) An acoustic deterrent. (b) A visual deterrent. (c) A device that cuts in at low wind speeds that will operate both deterrents. Here you can see two projects designed and manufactured by two of the students of the Comprehensive School in Glenties to solve the above problem.

Here are some sites particularly focused on Technology which you might find useful:
